Is your Christmas tree up? Are you decking the halls? Or is the holiday anxiety starting to set in? Being a parent during the holidays can be stressful, but you deserve to have fun too.
Whether you’ve already got Christmas fever, or you’re feeling like a grinch, we’ve rounded up some fun, family-friendly Toronto activities happening in the next couple weeks to get you in the festive mood. Embrace the spirit of the season and let yourself get caught up in the dazzle of the holidays: it’s time to step into Christmas!
1. It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play — Young People’s Theatre
You’ve probably seen the film, but this production by the Young People’s Theatre promises to give you all the holiday feels. It’s on now until December 30th.
2. The Distillery District Winter Village
Why not head over to the Distillery District and immerse yourself in the holiday vibe? There’s a 56 ft Christmas tree, carol singers, vendors, and festive food and drink to help you feel merry and bright.
3. Disco Descendants Holiday Party
Dreaming of a family-friendly Christmas party you don’t have to organise? On Sunday, December 3rd, Disco Descendants returns to the dance floor with a ‘camp as Christmas’ holiday party. Bring your family and chosen family, and dance your way into the festive season.
4. Mariah Carey — Merry Christmas One and All
Christmas comes but once a year, and so does the holiday soundtrack. Although tickets aren’t cheap, perhaps you want to splurge and see Mariah Carey perform at the Scotiabank Area on November 27th? Especially if all you want for Christmas is to see her sing her ubiquitous hit.
5. City of Toronto Cavalcade of Lights
On Saturday, November 25th, the City of Toronto will light its Christmas tree and transform Nathan Phillips Square from concrete jungle to festive sparkle. Ice skating will be back for the season too.
6. Bloor-Yorkville Holiday Magic
Also taking place on Saturday, November 25th, the Bloor-Yorkville BIA will hold its official lighting ceremony from 5pm to 7pm with a festive musical performance by Toronto’s own Jazz crooner Matt Dusk.
7. Harvest your own Christmas tree
Is driving out to the country to cut down your own Christmas tree too much? Clark Griswold didn’t think so! (Although don’t do what he did, and definitely cut your tree at a tree farm.) You can make a fun family day of it! This map can help you find tree farms that are close to Toronto.
